Arlington, Texas — The Texas Rangers today announced that the club has signed three players to minor league contracts with invitations to Major League Spring Training camp: Left-handed pitcher Danny Duffy, catcher José Godoy (pronounced “guh-DOY”) and left-handed pitcher Chasen Shreve.

Duffy, 35, made 28 relief appearances for Frisco (AA) and Round Rock (AAA) in 2023, going 2-2 with a 3.28 ERA (13 ER/35.2 IP). The veteran southpaw has appeared exclusively for Kansas City at the Major League level, sporting a career 68-68 mark, 3.95 ERA (514 ER/1172.1 IP), and 1,048 strikeouts across 234 games (204 starts) spanning 11 seasons with the Royals. All-time, he ranks among Royals pitchers in strikeouts (7th), starts (8th), innings (9th), and wins (11th). A member of the 2015 World Championship Royals squad, Duffy was teammates with current Rangers Executive Vice President and General Manager Chris Young, and played under then-Royals General Manager Dayton Moore, who is now a Senior Advisor of Baseball Operations with Texas. The Goleta, Calif. native returns to the Rangers after previously signing with Texas as a minor league free agent on January 27, 2023. He was originally drafted by Kansas City in the 3rd round of the 2007 MLB Draft from Cabrillo (CA) H.S.

Godoy, 29, split the 2023 campaign between Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (AAA) and Norfolk (AAA) of the New York-AL and Baltimore organizations, respectively, batting .267/.356/.397/.753 (31-116) with 4 home runs, 3 doubles, and 14 RBI in 36 games. The veteran catcher made his Major League debut for Seattle in 2021 and has since appeared in the big leagues for Minnesota and Pittsburgh, posting a career MLB batting average of .123 (7-57) with one double and 4 RBI. The left-handed batter has spent time in the St. Louis (2012-2019), Seattle (2021), Minnesota (2022), Pittsburgh (2022), New York-AL (2023), and Baltimore (2023) organizations. In 519 career minor league games (491 starts) behind the plate, the backstop has nabbed 189 of 528 (35.8%) of attempted base stealers. The Maracaibo, Venezuela native was originally signed as a non-drafted free agent by St. Louis on July 2, 2011.

The 33-year-old Shreve combined to go 1-2 with a 4.63 ERA (23 ER/44.2 IP) over 50 relief appearances with Detroit and Cincinnati in 2023. He was designated for assignment twice last season: August 11 (by Detroit) and September 12 (by Cincinnati). The veteran left-hander has seen Major League action in each of the last 10 seasons, combining for a 22-14 record with a 3.97 ERA and 9.8 strikeouts per 9 innings over 367 relief appearances with Atlanta (2014), New York-AL (2015-18), St. Louis (2018-19), New York-NL (2020, 2022), Pittsburgh (2021), Detroit (2023), and Cincinnati (2023). Since the start of 2015, the Las Vegas native has 352 games in the Majors, 14th-most among any left-handers over that span.

With the today’s three additions, the Rangers’ Spring Training roster now has 67 players: a full 40-man roster along with 27 non-roster invitees.

PETERS RETURNS TO TEXAS ORGANIZATION: Former Rangers outfielder DJ Peters, who appeared in 52 games for the club in 2021, has signed a minor league contract with Texas as a right-handed pitcher. He will be in minor league camp this spring. Peters, 28, produced a 1-0 record, 6.23 ERA (15 ER/21.2 IP), and 24 strikeouts/27 walks over 17 relief appearances with the Rookie-level Florida Complex League Tigers in 2023, his first season on the mound after making a mid-summer conversion from outfielder to pitcher. Prior to signing with Detroit as a minor league free agent on February 1, 2023, Peters split the 2022 campaign between the Lotte Giants of the Korea Baseball Organization and Triple-A Rochester in the Minnesota Twins system.
