Rangers do not tender 2024 contract offers to RHP Matt Bush and LHP Brett Martin

MLB’s tender deadline is tonight at 7:00 p.m. CT

Arlington, Texas — The Texas Rangers tonight announced that the club will not tender 2024 contract offers to right-handed pitcher Matt Bush and left-handed pitcher Brett Martin prior to tonight's 7:00 p.m. CT deadline.  Both players are now free agents.

The Rangers tendered contract offers to each of the other 27 eligible players on the roster.  The club already has eight players under contract for 2024: RHP Jacob deGrom, RHP Nathan Eovaldi, RHP Jon Gray, LHP Andrew Heaney, RHP José Leclerc, RHP Max Scherzer, SS Corey Seager, and 2B Marcus Semien.

The 37-year-old Bush never appeared for the Rangers in 2023 despite being on the club’s active roster for the final two regular season games, the American League Wild Card Series vs. Tampa Bay, and the American League Division Series vs. Baltimore.  He combined for a 2-0 record with a 2.64 ERA (9 ER/30.2 IP) over 24 appearances with Frisco (AA) and Round Rock (AAA) after signing a minor league contract to return to the Texas organization on July 12.

Martin, 28, spent the entire season on the Rangers’ 60-day Injured List after having left shoulder surgery on January 18, 2023.  He has an 8-15 record with a 3.85 ERA over 187 relief appearances over his 4-year MLB career, all with Texas, from 2019-22.

Following today’s transactions, the Rangers now have 35 players on the club’s Major League roster.
