Oakland, Calif. -- The Texas Rangers announced today that following Wednesday night’s game, the club optioned catcher Jose Trevino and right-handed pitcher Luke Farrell to the Alternate Training Site.

Per 2020 Major League Baseball regulations, the active roster was required to be reduced from 30 to 28 players prior to a deadline at 9:00 a.m. PT this morning. After MLB’s announcement on Wednesday night, rosters will now consist of 28 players for the remainder of the season.

Trevino made an Opening Day roster for the first time in his career, going 1-for-4 with a walk and RBI in 2 games/one start for Texas. His lone start came in the club’s 7-4 win last Thursday vs. Arizona, also his last appearance in a game with the Rangers.

Farrell has allowed 5 runs in 3.1 innings in 3 relief appearances in 2020.

After the moves, the Rangers remain at the limit of 40 players on their Major League roster.
