Arlington, Texas — The Texas Rangers today announced the following transactions prior to Thursday night’s game against the Pirates at Globe Life Field:

  • Left-handed pitcher Robert Garcia placed on 15-day Injured List (left shoulder inflammation), retroactive to April 20
  • Right-handed pitcher Peyton Gray (#75) contract selected from Triple-A Round Rock

To make room for Gray on the club’s Major League roster, catcher Willie MacIver was designated for assignment.

Garcia, 29, has gone 0-1 with a 3.38 ERA (3 ER/8.0 IP) and .185 opponent batting average in 9 relief appearances for Texas this year, but did not pitch in any of Texas’ last 5 games. The southpaw has not permitted a run or hit in his last 3 outings (beg. April 11), totaling 3.0 innings. Opposing left-handers are 0-for-13 with 4 strikeouts this season against Garcia, as Robert and Boston's Jovani Moran are the only pitchers in MLB to hold left-handed batters to 13-or-more hitless at bats in 2026.

Gray, who is seeking his Major League debut, has pitched 12.2 shutout innings across 7 relief outings for Triple-A Round Rock in 2026, going 1-0 with 2 saves, a 0.79 WHIP figure, 15 strikeouts, 2 walks, and .186 opponent batting average (8-43). Among Pacific Coast League hurlers with at least 10.0 innings pitched this year, the 30-year-old right-hander ranks highly in opponent OPS (4th, .431), WHIP (5th), and strikeout-to-walk ratio (5th, 7.50). He last appeared on Friday vs. El Paso (SV, 3.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 SO, 37 pitches/26 strikes), establishing season-highs in innings and pitches while closing out a 9-7 Express victory.

2026 marks the Columbus, Ind. native’s 9th year in professional baseball since signing as an undrafted free agent with Colorado in 2018 out of Florida Gulf Coast University. Gray owns a 16-9 record with a 2.85 ERA (49 ER/155.0 IP) and 216 strikeouts in five seasons of affiliated action within the Rockies (2018-19), Royals (2021), and Rangers (2025-26) chains, while also spending three years in the independent American Association (2020, 2022-23) and several offseasons (2022-25) in foreign winter leagues.

Texas signed Gray to a minor league contract on Jan. 21, 2025 and re-signed him on Nov. 18, 2025 with an invite to 2026 Major League Spring Training, where he posted a 2.53 ERA (3 ER/10.2 IP) with 18 strikeouts and one walk in 9 Cactus League outings. Upon his first appearance, Gray would become the oldest player to make his Major League debut with Texas since left-handed pitcher Hyeon-jong Yang (age 33) on April 26, 2021 vs. Los Angeles-AL.

The 29-year-old MacIver has batted .170 (8-47) over 14 games for Round Rock this season, including 7 starts apiece at catcher and designated hitter for the Express. Originally acquired via waiver claim from the Athletics on November 5, 2025, MacIver appeared in 14 Cactus League games for Texas this spring, batting .150 (3-20) with one double, 4 RBI, and 10 walks. The Rangers have seven days to trade, release, or outright MacIver to the minor leagues.

With today’s transactions, the Rangers remain at the 40-man limit on the club’s Major League roster, along with two players on the 60-day Injured List (LHPs Cody Bradford and Jordan Montgomery).
