Arlington, Texas — The Texas Rangers today announced the following roster moves prior to Sunday night’s game against the Houston Astros at Globe Life Field:

• Right-handed pitcher Josh Sborz placed on 15-day Injured List with a right rotator cuff strain.
• Right-handed pitcher Grant Anderson (#65) recalled from Round Rock (AAA).

Sborz, 30, exited in the 8th inning of last night’s game with right shoulder stiffness after retiring two batters and reaching an 0-2 count on Houston first baseman José Abreu. The right-hander underwent further imaging this morning to determine the nature of the injury, which revealed a right rotator cuff strain.

Sborz was scoreless over 2.2 innings pitched spanning three relief appearances for the Rangers this season, striking out 3 of the 10 batters he faced. The Washington, D.C. area native has seen Major League action with Texas in each of the last four seasons (2021-2024), combining to post an 11-10 record, one save, a 4.89 ERA (74 ER/136.1 IP), and 170 strikeouts (11.2 SO/9) across 129 appearances/one start in that span.

Anderson, 26, will be seeking his season debut with Rangers, as he has spent the entirety of the 2024 campaign to this point at Round Rock (AAA). He is scoreless in two relief outings (2.0 IP) for the Express this season, last working in the 5th inning of the club’s 10-2 victory on Thursday at El Paso (W, 1.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 SO, 11 pitches/9 strikes).

After going 0-1, 1.35 ERA (1 ER/6.2 IP) with 7 strikeouts and no walks across 7 Cactus League ‘A’ game appearances for Texas this spring, Anderson was optioned to Triple-A on March 28 prior to the Rangers’ regular-season opener against the Chicago Cubs in Arlington.

The Port Arthur, Texas native made his Major League debut over 26 appearances (all in relief) for Texas in 2023, compiling a 2-1 record, 5.05 ERA (20 ER/35.2 IP), and 30 strikeouts/14 walks. He was originally selected by the Seattle Mariners in the 21st round of the 2018 MLB Draft out of McNeese State University in Lake Charles, La. before being acquired by the Rangers on April 2, 2019 in exchange for right-handed pitcher Connor Sadzeck.

With today’s transactions, Texas remains at the 40-man limit on the club’s Major League roster, along with three players (Carson Coleman, Jacob deGrom, and Tyler Mahle) on the 60-day Injured List.
