September 12th, 2020

Arlington, Texas -- The Texas Rangers announced between games of today’s doubleheader against Oakland that the club has recalled infielder Sherten Apostel (#82) from the alternate training site. Apostel will be in uniform for Game 2 of tonight’s doubleheader, seeking his Major League debut.

To make room for Apostel on the active roster, the team has placed shortstop Elvis Andrus on the 10-day Injured List with a back strain.

Apostel, 21, has spent the entire season at the alternate training site. He played in 7 games for the club during Summer Camp and batted .211 (4-19) with 2 RBI over 13 games during Spring Training. Acquired in a July 31, 2018 trade with Pittsburgh, he produced a .251/.359/.440/.779 slash line with Low-A Hickory and High-A Down East in 2019. Apostel would be the fifth player to appear for the Rangers this season that had not played

Andrus went 1-for-3 with a run scored as the starting shortstop in the first game of tonight’s doubleheader against the A’s. He has batted .194 with 3 home runs and 7 RBI in 29 games with Texas this season.

The second game of tonight’s doubleheader between the Rangers and Athletics is scheduled to begin at 6:45 p.m. CT at Globe Life Field.
