Detroit, Mich. — The Texas Rangers today announced the following roster moves ahead of Tuesday night’s game against the Detroit Tigers at Comerica Park:

  • Right-handed pitcher Dane Dunning reinstated from MLB Paternity Leave List.
  • Right-handed pitcher Joe Barlow placed on 15-day Injured List (retroactive to May 29) with an illness.
  • Right-handed pitcher Spencer Howard sent to Triple-A Round Rock on injury rehabilitation assignment.

Dunning, 28, has gone 4-0 with a 1.67 ERA (8 ER/43.0 IP) and 26 strikeouts/10 walks over 12 appearances/4 starts for the Rangers in 2023. He ranks among American League pitchers this season (min. 40.0 IP) in ERA (1st), opp. OPS (1st, .524), HR allowed (T1st, 0), and opp. BA (9th, .206). The right-hander is currently scheduled to start for Texas in tomorrow’s series finale against the Tigers at Comerica Park. He last pitched in a start for the Rangers on May 22 at Pittsburgh (ND, 5.2 IP, 6 H, 1 R-ER, 3 BB, 3 SO). Dunning was placed on the MLB Paternity Leave list on Friday.

Barlow, 27, has a 5.40 ERA (2 ER/3.1 IP) over 5 relief appearances since he was recalled from Triple-A Round Rock on May 16 for his first Major League stint of 2023. The first date that he would be eligible to return to the active roster is June 13.

Following today’s transactions, the Rangers remain at the 40-man limit on the Major League roster, along with four players (Spencer Howard, Brett Martin, Jake Odorizzi, and Glenn Otto) on the 60-day Injured List.

HOWARD TO BEGIN REHAB ASSIGNMENT: RHP Spencer Howard, who has been on the Injured List all season with a right lat strain, has been sent to Triple-A Round Rock on injury rehabilitation assignment.  Howard is scheduled to pitch in tonight’s homestand opener against Sugar Land beginning at 7:05 p.m. CT.  It will be the first official game action for Howard this season after he was injured in Spring Training.  He opened the season on the 15-day Injured List and was transferred to the 60-day Injured List on April 10.
