Surprise, Ariz. — The Texas Rangers today formally announced the signing of free agent infielder/outfielder Brad Miller to a two-year Major League contract. Additionally, the club has re-signed infielder Charlie Culberson to a minor league contract with an invitation to Major League Spring Training camp.

Miller, 32, batted .227 with 20 home runs and 49 RBI over 140 games with Philadelphia in 2021. The left-handed batter hit .244 with an .842 OPS figure against right-handed pitchers last season, and he owns a .251 batting average and .864 OPS against right-handers over the past three seasons (2019-21). He made starts at five different positions for the Phillies in 2021, and he hast Major League starts at every position except catcher and pitcher in his big league career.

A nine-year MLB veteran, Miller has batted .239 with a .742 OPS mark for Seattle (2013-15), Tampa Bay (2016-18), Milwaukee (2018), Cleveland (2019), Philadelphia (2019, 2021), and St. Louis (2020). The Orlando native and Clemson University product was originally selected by Seattle in the second round of the 2011 MLB Draft. The Rangers had drafted Miller in the 39th round of the 2008 Draft, but he elected to attend Clemson.

Culberson, who turns 33 on April 10, batted .243 with 5 home runs and 22 RBI over 90 games for the Rangers last season in his first year with Texas. He made a team-high 60 starts at third base for the club, his most at a single position in any one season, and posted a .346 (46-133) average against left-handed pitchers. He batted .292 (19-65) over his final 25 games in 2021. The veteran infielder has batted .247 over 517 Major League games in his career with San Francisco (2012), Colorado (2013-14), Los Angeles-NL (2016-17), Atlanta (2018-20), and Texas (2021).

With these signings, the Rangers now have 67 players on the club’s Spring Training roster: 40 on the Major League roster and 27 non-roster invitees.
