RAYS ACQUIRE RYAN PEPIOT & JONNY DELUCA FROM DODGERS

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla.—The Tampa Bay Rays have acquired right-handed pitcher Ryan Pepiot and outfielder Jonny DeLuca from the Los Angeles Dodgers in exchange for right-handed pitcher Tyler Glasnow, outfielder Manuel Margot and cash considerations.

Pepiot, 26, went 2-1 with a 2.14 ERA (42.0IP, 10ER) and 38 strikeouts in eight appearances (3 starts) last season with the Dodgers. From the time of his August 19 season debut through the end of the season, his 0.76 WHIP was the lowest mark among National League pitchers while his 2.14 ERA ranked third (min. 40.0 IP). The Indianapolis, Ind. native was selected by the Dodgers in the third round of the 2019 First-Year Player Draft from Butler University, becoming the highest draft pick in school history after setting Butler’s all-time (306) and single-season (126, 2019) strikeout records during his three-year career. The 6-3, 215-pound right-hander made his major league debut on May 11, 2022, and went 5-1 with a 2.76 ERA (78.1IP, 24ER) with 80 strikeouts over 17 appearances (10 starts) in two seasons with Los Angeles.

DeLuca, 25, hit .262/.311/.429 (11-for-42) with one double, two home runs and six RBI in 24 games for the Dodgers in 2023. The Thousand Oaks, Calif. native concluded the season with Triple-A Oklahoma City, helping the Dodgers secure their first Pacific Coast League championship since 1996 after recording a go-ahead home run in the clinching victory. DeLuca was selected by Los Angeles in the 25th round of the 2019 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Oregon and made his major league debut on June 7, 2023.

Glasnow, 30, went 10-7 with 3.53 ERA (120.0IP, 47ER) across 21 starts following a stint on the 15-day injured list to open the 2023 season. He set career highs in starts, wins, innings and strikeouts (162). Glasnow was named AL Pitcher of the Month for July after going 3-2 with a 2.11 ERA (38.1IP, 9ER), 0.89 WHIP and 51 strikeouts.

The 6-8, 225-pound right-hander was acquired from Pittsburgh on July 31, 2018, and went 27-16 with a 3.20 ERA (388.1IP, 138ER) in 71 starts for the Rays. His .196 opponent batting average is the lowest in Rays history, while his 3.20 ERA is third lowest behind Shane McClanahan (3.02) and David Price (3.18).

Margot, 29, hit .264 (82-for-311) with 21 doubles, one triple, four home runs and 38 RBI across 99 games for the Rays in 2023. Acquired from San Diego on February 8, 2020, Margot hit .264 with 66 doubles, six triples, 19 home runs and 153 RBI in four seasons with Tampa Bay.
