- PETERSBURG, Fla.—The Tampa Bay Rays have announced that first base coach Chris Prieto and assistant hitting coach Dan DeMent will not be returning in 2024.
“I am appreciative of the hard work and commitment from Chris and Dan throughout the last two seasons. We wish them and their families the absolute best in their next steps,” said Rays Manager Kevin Cash.
Prieto was named first base coach on November 18, 2021. Prior to joining the Rays major league staff, he spent two seasons in the organization as the minor league outfield/baserunning coordinator.
DeMent was named assistant hitting coach on November 18, 2021. Overall, he spent 13 seasons as a coach in the Rays minor league system, including two seasons as a minor league hitting coordinator (2020-21). DeMent is a former infielder that spent the first five seasons of his playing career with the Rays after signing as a non-drafted free agent in June 2000.
