BOSTON, MA – The Boston Red Sox today acquired right-handed pitcher Justin Slaten from the New York Mets, in exchange for minor league left-handed pitcher Ryan Ammons and cash considerations. Boston’s 40-man roster is now at 38.

Slaten, 26, was selected by the Mets from the Texas Rangers in the Rule 5 Draft today, after posting a 2.87 ERA (19 ER/59.2 IP), .206 opponent batting average, and 12.97 strikeouts per 9.0 innings (86 strikeouts) in 40 games (one start) during 2023 with Double-A Frisco and Triple-A Round Rock. The right-hander was promoted to Round Rock on September 12 and recorded a 1.08 ERA (1 ER/8.1 IP) and .107 opponent batting average in five games with the Express, his first Triple-A experience. Selected by Texas in the third round of the 2019 First-Year Player Draft, the Texas native owns a 5.31 ERA (124 ER/210.0 IP) in 97 career minor league games (35 starts).

Ammons, 22, was selected by the Red Sox in the 10^th round of the 2023 First-Year Player Draft. The left-hander is a product of Clemson University, where he posted a 4.35 ERA (25 ER/51.2 IP) with 13 saves in 47 games (two starts) over four seasons (2020-23). Following the draft, Ammons did not pitch for a Red Sox affiliate.
