Red Sox announce personnel moves in player development, set Minor League field staffs

BOSTON, MA—The Boston Red Sox today announced personnel moves in the Player Development department, as well as 2025 field staffs for their minor league affiliates.

Brian Abraham has been promoted to Senior Director, Player Development after serving as Director, Player Development. Patrick McLaughlin has been named Senior Baseball Operations Specialist after previously serving as the Assistant Director of Minor League Operations. Jordan Elkary has been named Manager, Player Development after working as a Coordinator, Baseball Development. Justin Frometa has been promoted to Assistant of Player Development after spending the 2024 season as a Development Coach with Double-A Portland. Nick Guzzo has been named Minor League Assistant, Baseball Technology after working as Assistant, Baseball Systems.

Ben Buck joins the organization as a Pitching Coordinator following time as Complex Pitching Coordinator with the New York Yankees. Rich Gedman has been named Player Development Hitting Advisor after working as Triple-A Worcester’s Hitting Coach.

Nick Shedd has been promoted to Director of Strength of Conditioning after spending the 2024 season as Minor League Strength and Conditioning Coordinator. Simon Thomas joins the Red Sox as Minor League Strength and Conditioning Coordinator after serving as the Head of Performance for the Western Force, a professional rugby union team in Perth, Australia. Joel Harris has been named Minor League Rehab Specialist after working as Minor League Athletic Training Coordinator (2021-24). Chelsea Willette has been hired as Minor League Athletic Training Coordinator after serving as the Triple-A Oklahoma City Dodgers’ Head Athletic Trainer from 2018-24. Jake Chaplin has been promoted to Mental Performance Coordinator. Delaney White moved into the role of Nutrition Operations Assistant after spending 2024 with the organization. Steven Su has been hired as a Minor League Taiwanese Translator.

Collin Hetzler has been hired as Hitting Coach, after spending four seasons in the Mets’ organization and serving as Triple-A Syracuse’s Hitting Coach from 2023-24. Iggy Suarez has been added to Worcester’s staff as Defensive Coach, after spending 2018-24 as High-A Greenville’s Manager. Nick LaRue has been named the club’s Strength & Conditioning Coach after previously working with the Houston Astros as a Minor League Strength and Conditioning Coach from 2022-24.

Juan Rivera joins Portland’s staff as Pitching Coach after serving in the same position with Single-A Salem in 2024. Johnny Reina has been hired as an Assistant Hitting Coach after working as a Hitting Trainer at Driveline Baseball in Seattle, Washington. Jonah Mondloch joins the team as the Strength & Conditioning Coach after serving as an Assistant Rehab Strength and Conditioning Coach with the organization.

Liam Carroll has been promoted to Greenville’s manager after serving in the same position with Salem (2023-24). Tyler Snep was named Greenville’s Assistant Hitting Coach after serving as a Seasonal Affiliate Coach during the 2024 season. Andrew Sadoski has been hired as Greenville’s Assistant Pitching Coach after working as the Single-A Delmarva Shorebirds’ Pitching Coach in 2024. Kelsey Branstetter joins the staff as the Athletic Trainer after serving in the same role with Triple-A Louisville (2023-24).

Ozzie Chavez has been promoted to Manager after serving as Salem’s Bench Coach in 2024. Alex Reynolds was named Pitching Coach after spending the 2024 season as Greenville’s Development and Assistant Pitching Coach. Kyle Schmidt transitions to Defensive Coach after spending the 2024 season as the Seasonal Affiliate Coach with Salem. Brenden Argomaniz joins the staff as Assistant Pitching Coach after serving in the same role at Bloomsburg University in 2024. Jack Simonetty has been promoted to Assistant Hitting Coach after serving as a Player Development Associate in Fort Myers for the 2024 season. Marissa Sciabarra will serve as the club’s Athletic Trainer after having the same role with the FCL Red Sox in 2024.

Chase Illig has been promoted to FCL Manager after spending 2024 as a Defensive Coach with the club. Jessica von Kessel has been named the club’s Athletic Trainer. She worked as a Student Physical Therapist for the Tampa Bay Rays (2024) and served as the Head Athletic Trainer for the Long Island Ducks of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball (2022-23). TJ Jackson was promoted to Strength and Conditioning Coach after serving as an Assistant Minor League Strength and Conditioning Coach based out of Fort Myers.

Matt Wheeler transitions to DSL Pitching Coach after serving as Salem’s Development/Assistant Pitching Coach last season.
