Mike Rikard was promoted to Vice President, Scouting; Paul Toboni was promoted to Director, Amateur Scouting; Devin Pearson was promoted to Assistant Director, Amateur Scouting; and Stephen Hargett has been promoted to Amateur Crosschecker.

Rikard has been a member of the Red Sox organization since 2004. In his new role, he will remain one of the club’s top evaluators. Rikard will continue to have significant involvement in the annual June Draft, while also serving as a key evaluator across all scouting departments. Since 2017, Rikard, a native of North Carolina, served as Vice President, Amateur Scouting, and for each of the last five seasons, he oversaw the club’s June First-Year Player Drafts. Rikard is a graduate of the University of North Carolina-Greensboro, where he played four seasons as a shortstop.

Toboni spent the last three seasons as Assistant Director, Amateur Scouting (2017-19). The San Francisco native will oversee the club’s amateur scouting department. Toboni, a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley where he played baseball, and who also earned his MBA from the University of Notre Dame, was hired by the Red Sox as an intern in baseball operations in 2015 before moving into an amateur scouting role in 2016 with the club with coverage in Texas and northern Louisiana.

Pearson was hired as a full-time member of the Red Sox amateur scouting department for the 2018 season, following an internship with the professional scouting department in 2017. Since joining the organization, he has contributed significantly to the Red Sox efforts in the amateur draft and will continue to work closely with Toboni. A California native, Pearson was a 2016 graduate of the University of California, Berkeley, where he played four seasons as an outfielder.

Hargett has served as an amateur scout for the Red Sox with coverage in northern Florida since 2015. In his new role, he will add to the club’s crosschecking coverage and assist in the development and transition of new scouts.
