Club Recalls Right-Handed Pitcher Zack Kelly from Triple-A Worcester

BOSTON, MA—The Boston Red Sox today placed right-handed pitcher Chris Martin on the 15-Day Injured List, retroactive to June 2, due to anxiety. To fill his spot on the active roster, the club recalled right-handed pitcher Zack Kelly from Triple-A Worcester.

Martin, 38, last pitched on May 30 against the Detroit Tigers. The right-hander has pitched in 21 games this season, posting a 4.22 ERA (10 ER/21.1 IP) with 24 strikeouts. Originally selected by the Colorado Rockies in the 21st round of the 2005 First-Year Player Draft, the Texas native owns a 3.42 ERA (123 ER/323.2 IP) in 345 career games with the Rockies (2014), New York Yankees (2015), Texas Rangers (2018-19), Atlanta Braves (2019-21), Chicago Cubs (2022), Los Angeles Dodgers (2022), and Red Sox (2023-24).

Kelly, 29, has pitched in 11 games for the Red Sox this season, recording a 2.16 ERA (4 ER/16.2 IP) with 14 strikeouts. The right-hander has also pitched in seven games with Worcester, allowing zero runs in 10.2 innings with 11 strikeouts and just one hit allowed. Originally signed as a non-drafted free agent by the Oakland Athletics in 2017, the Virginia native owns a 3.18 ERA (14 ER/39.2 IP) in 32 career games with Boston (2022-24).
