Red Sox reinstate left-handed pitcher Joely Rodriguez from 15-day injured list

Club Designates right-handed pitcher Ryan Brasier for Assignment

BOSTON, MA—The Boston Red Sox today reinstated left-handed pitcher Joely Rodriguez from the 15-Day Injured List. To make room for Rodriguez on the active roster, the club designated right-handed pitcher Ryan Brasier for assignment. The Red Sox’ 40-man roster is now at 39.

Chief Baseball Officer Chaim Bloom made the announcement.

Rodriguez, 31, was placed on the 15-Day Injured List on March 30 (retroactive to March 27) with a right oblique strain. He made five rehab appearances with Triple-A Worcester and Double-A Portland, allowing one run in 5.1 innings with nine strikeouts and one walk. The left-hander has posted a 4.59 ERA (74 ER/146.0 IP) in 157 career relief appearances with the Philadelphia Phillies (2016-17), Texas Rangers (2020-21), New York Yankees (2021), and New York Mets (2022). From 2018-19, he pitched for the Chunichi Dragons of Japan’s Nippon Professional Baseball. Rodriguez was signed by Boston as a free agent on November 23, 2022.

Brasier, 35, appeared in last night’s game against the St. Louis Cardinals and allowed three runs over 2.1 innings. The right-hander has posted a 7.29 ERA (17 ER/21.0 IP) in 20 outings this season. Signed by the Red Sox as a free agent prior to the 2018 season, Brasier owns a 4.55 ERA (106 ER/209.2 IP) over 222 games (one start) for Boston (2018-23). His 221 relief appearances for the Red Sox rank 19th in franchise history.
