BOSTON, MA—The Boston Red Sox today reinstated shortstop Trevor Story from the 60-Day Injured List. To make room for Story, the club designated infielder Yu Chang for assignment. The Red Sox’ 40-man roster is at 39.

Chief Baseball Officer Chaim Bloom made the announcement.

Story, 30, was on the Injured List due to right elbow ulnar collateral ligament repair. The two-time All-Star and Silver Slugger Award recipient (2018-19) played in 94 games for Boston last season, batting .238 (85-for-357) with 22 doubles, 16 home runs, and 66 RBI. Originally selected by the Colorado Rockies in the first round of the 2011 First-Year Player Draft, the right-handed hitter has batted .268 (853-for-3,179) with an .849 OPS, 174 home runs, 516 RBI, and 113 stolen bases in 839 career games with Colorado (2016-21) and Boston (2022). The Texas native was signed by the Red Sox as a free agent on March 22, 2022.

Chang, 27, has played in 39 games for the Red Sox this season, batting .162 (17-for-105) with two doubles, six home runs, and 18 RBI while appearing in 33 games at shortstop, four at second base, two at first base, one at third base, and one as the designated hitter. The all-time leader in games played by players born in Taiwan, Chang has batted .204 (121-for-594) with 20 home runs and 79 RBI in 235 career games with Cleveland (2019-22), Pittsburgh (2022), Tampa Bay (2022), and Boston (2022-23).
