Boston Acquires Minor League Right-Handed Pitcher David Sandlin from Kansas City

BOSTON, MA—The Boston Red Sox today acquired minor league right-handed pitcher David Sandlin from the Kansas City Royals, in exchange for right-handed pitcher John Schreiber.

Sandlin, 22, is ranked by Baseball America as the Royals’ No. 20 prospect. Selected by Kansas City in the 11th round of the 2022 First-Year Player Draft, the right-hander has made 15 appearances (all starts) and gone 4-2 with a 3.41 ERA (26 ER/68.2 IP), 90 strikeouts, 18 walks, a 1.19 WHIP, and a .250 opponent batting average. Last season, he was named Carolina League Pitcher of the Week on June 11 after throwing 7.0 scoreless innings against Single-A Salem on June 9, allowing four hits with nine strikeouts and one walk.

Schreiber, 29, owns a 3.58 ERA (57 ER/143.1 IP) in 139 career Major League games (two starts) with the Detroit Tigers (2019-20) and Red Sox (2021-23). Claimed off waivers from the Tigers in February 2021, he appeared in 111 games (two starts) with the Red Sox and posted a 2.90 ERA (37 ER/114.2 IP), making Boston’s Opening Day roster in 2023.
