OAKLAND, Calif. – Right-handed pitcher Frankie Montas has been reinstated from the restricted list. To clear a spot on the 40-man roster, the A’s have designated catcher Beau Taylor for assignment.

Montas was 9-2 with a 2.70 ERA in 15 starts when he was suspended on June 21 for 80 games for violating Major League Baseball’s Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program. At the time, he was tied for third in the American League in wins and winning percentage (.818) and ranked fifth in ERA.

Taylor began the season with the A’s organization, was claimed off waivers by Toronto on Aug. 16 and claimed off waivers by the A’s on Sept. 10. He played in just one game since his return to Oakland and went 0-for-1 on Sept. 10 against Houston. The 29-year-old left-handed hitter batted .174 with two home runs and two RBI in 10 games overall with the A’s and also went 0-for-2 in one game with the Blue Jays for a .160 average overall.
