The Pittsburgh Pirates today recalled infielder Rodolfo Castro from Triple-A Indianapolis. To make room on the 26-man active roster, infielder/outfielder Cole Tucker has been optioned to Triple-A.
The Pirates have also claimed right-handed pitcher Tyler Beede (pronounced Bee-dee) off waivers from the San Francisco Giants. To make room for Beede on the 40-man roster, right-handed pitcher Beau Sulser has been designated for assignment.
Prior to being recalled by the Pirates, Castro was hitting .250 (23-for-92) with six doubles, one triple, two home runs, 12 RBI and five stolen bases in 29 games with Indianapolis. Castro will wear uniform #14.
Beede made six appearances in relief with San Francisco this year, where he posted a 0-0 record and 4.66 ERA (9.2ip/5er). He has gone 5-11 with a 5.39 ERA (135.1ip/81er) and 128 strikeouts in 33 appearances (24 starts) since breaking into the big leagues with the Giants in 2018. The Pirates will make a corresponding move on the 26-man active roster when Beede joins the team. Beede will wear uniform #48.
