Texas Lottery named presenting sponsor of Silver Boot Series between Astros & Rangers

Series Between In-State Opponents Has Developed Into Exciting Rivalry

April 4th, 2024

HOUSTON, TX - The Houston Astros and Texas Rangers have announced that Texas Lottery is the presenting sponsor of the Silver Boot Series, which is the annual, regular-season series between the two in-state rivals. Each year, the winner of the series, which began in 2001, earns the right to keep the coveted, Silver Boot Trophy at their ballpark. The 2024 Silver Boot Series begins tomorrow night in Arlington with the first game of a four-game series at Globe Life Field. The first series at Minute Maid Park will be next weekend, April 12-14. The two clubs will play 13 times in 2024.

In recent years, the Astros have dominated the Silver Boot Series, having won the trophy in each of the last seven seasons (since 2017). Most recently, Houston was 9-4 vs. the Rangers in 2023. However, the Rangers turned tide on the Astros in the 2023 American League Championship Series, defeating the Astros in seven games in what was an exciting, drama-filled series, which only intensified the rivalry.

“The Texas Lottery is honored to once again be the presenting sponsor of the Silver Boot Series, uniting with the Astros and Rangers in celebrating one of baseball’s best rivalries,” said Robert Rivera, Chairman of the Texas Lottery Commission. “This collaboration brings together fans and lottery players across Texas, infusing excitement into every game. Additionally, it gives the Texas Lottery an opportunity to raise awareness about its support for its beneficiaries, including veterans. We want to wish both teams a great season.”

Included in the sponsorship, Texas Lottery will serve as the presenting sponsor of Armed Forces Day at Minute Maid Park, scheduled for Saturday, May 18.

The Astros will host the Rangers for six games at Minute Maid Park (April 12-14, July 12-14) and will visit Globe Life Field to face the Rangers for seven games (April 5-8, August 5-7). The Rangers hold a slight, 134-132 edge all-time in the head-to-head, regular season series.
