HOUSTON, TX—The Astros Golf Foundation has announced their partnership with THINK Neurology for Kids, which will be the Presenting Sponsor of the tournament’s 2021 Birdies For Charity Program.
Birdies for Charity is a fundraising program designed to give participating charities and schools the opportunity to generate donations for their organization through the Houston Open.
The Birdies for Charity program collects pledges of one cent or more from the General Public and/or Corporate Donors for every ‘Birdie’ made by the PGA TOUR players during the Houston Open, which will be held November 8-14, 2021. Last year, the Birdies for Charity program raised $74,000 through the Houston Open.
“THINK Neurology for Kids partnering with the Houston Open and the Astros Golf Foundation was an easy decision because they share the same goals and desire as us to help children and their parents overcome obstacles faced in life,” said Shaun Varghese, M.D., Pediatric Neurologist/CEO THINK Neurology for Kids. “We share the same values of helping others to make this community a productive and positive environment for all.”
“We are grateful to THINK Neurology for Kids for their shared commitment to our community, “said Giles Kibbe, President of the Astros Golf Foundation. “We saw tremendous support for the Birdies for Charity effort in our first attempt last year and we know this partnership will help elevate and create excitement in assisting so many worthy charities.”
Thanks to THINK Neurology for Kids, this year’s bonus pool has increased from $25,000 to $100,000. The top fifteen 15 organizations that collect the highest total of donations and four randomly drawn organizations will receive an additional bonus from this pool. The charitable organization that raises the most funds will receive $25,000 in bonus bucks.
The Astros Golf Foundation administers the Birdies for Charity program, invoices all donors, and turns over 100% of all funds collected to each designated organization. Registration for the 2021 fundraising program began in February and will close July 13, 2021. The fundraising campaign will launch Wednesday, July 14, 2021 and conclude November 14, 2021.

2021 HOUSTON OPEN
Since 1946, the Houston Open has been a staple of the Houston community and is the 10th longest running event on the PGA TOUR. In danger of losing the tournament in Houston, Jim Crane stepped in and formed the Astros Golf Foundation to operate the Houston Open with three key objectives: to ensure the PGA TOUR event remains in Houston, bring the tournament back to its glory and into the heart of the city, and provide much needed resources and funds to the citizens and community of Houston through park improvements, charitable fundraising and investing in youth. This will be the 74th Houston Open and second at the renovated course at Memorial Park Golf Course, founded in 1912.
