MINNEAPOLIS-ST. PAUL, MN – The Minnesota Twins, back in the postseason for a second consecutive year and having clinched home field advantage for the Wild Card Series that begins Tuesday at Target Field, are proud to once again partner with the Star Tribune and Cub to deliver fans an enduring symbol of playoff baseball: The 2020 Homer Hanky™.

Fans can purchase their 2020 Homer Hankies beginning Tuesday, September 29 at the Twins Clubhouse Store, select Cub locations throughout Minnesota, and online via startribune.com/HomerHanky. A portion of the proceeds from each sale will go to benefit the Minnesota Twins Community Fund.

“The communal experience of waving a Homer Hanky is a postseason rite of passage for Twins fans, one that will continue in 2020,” said team President & CEO Dave St. Peter. “Nothing can replace a full ballpark, but our organization, and the team on the field, are thrilled to know that Homer Hankies will be flying in living rooms across Twins Territory this fall. We thank the Star Tribune and Cub for helping provide Twins fans a symbol of baseball normalcy in this abnormal year, and we hope to keep the Homer Hankies twirling deep into October.”

Featuring a return to the Hanky’s traditional white color, and with a design aesthetic celebrating the virtue of “home” in this unprecedented year, the 2020 Homer Hanky is sure to take its place in this iconic collection.

Again manufactured for retail by Winona, Minnesota-based WinCraft, the 2020 Homer Hanky is a 100-percent cotton, terrycloth towel – a durable material well-suited for waving enthusiastically throughout the Twins’ postseason run.

“Cub is excited to again be part of the Homer Hanky tradition,” said Mike Stigers, Chief Executive Officer of Cub. “We are happy to be able to offer the iconic symbol to our Cub customers, so that they can cheer on our Twins from their living rooms. As the hometown grocer, it gives us great pride to team up with the Twins and Star Tribune”

The Homer Hanky, originally a brainchild of the Star Tribune marketing team, made its debut for Game 1 of the 1987 American League Championship Series at the Metrodome and became a fixture of the Twins’ World Series championship run that October. The fabled symbol of Twins postseason baseball returned for the team’s 1991 World Series title and has been on hand for every Twins home playoff game since (2002-04; 2006; 2009-10; 2019).

The Twins, who have an opportunity to win their second straight American League Central Division championship on this, the final day of the 2020 regular season, will open the new, Wild Card Series with Game 1 Tuesday at Target Field against one of five possible opponents: the Cleveland Indians, Chicago White Sox, Houston Astros, New York Yankees or Toronto Blue Jays. Game times and broadcast information are to be determined.
