Twins make roster moves

MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL, MN – The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have reinstated right-handed pitcher Jorge Alcala from the 10-day Injured List and selected the contract of right-handed pitcher Ian Gibaut from Triple-A St. Paul.

Alcala, who missed the Twins’ last 15 games with triceps tendinitis, has appeared in 45 games for the Twins this season, going 3-5 with a 5.11 ERA (44.0 IP, 25 ER), 11 walks and 43 strikeouts.

Gibaut, who was claimed off waivers from Texas on October 30, 2020, appeared in 27 games (1 start) for the Saints this season, going 1-3 with a 7.20 ERA (40.0 IP, 32 ER), 20 walks and 46 strikeouts. The 27-year-old has appeared in 24 career games at the major league level with Tampa Bay (2019) and Texas (2019-20), going 1-2 with a 6.08 ERA (26.2 IP, 18 ER), nine walks and 14 strikeouts. Gibaut will be in uniform for tonight’s game against the Milwaukee Brewers and wear jersey number 65.

To make room for Alcala and Gibaut on the 26-man roster, the Twins have optioned right-handed pitchers Kyle Barraclough and Edgar García to Triple-A St. Paul. Barraclough, who was signed to a minor league contract on June 20, appeared in three games for the Twins, allowing four runs on four hits in 3.1 innings pitched, with two walks and four strikeouts. García, who was claimed off waivers from Cincinnati on July 30, appeared in six games for the Twins, allowing 12 runs on nine hits in 10.1 innings pitched, with seven walks and eight strikeouts.

In addition, right-handed pitcher Luke Farrell has been transferred to the 60-day Injured List. Farrell has missed the Twins’ last 54 games with a right oblique strain.
