MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL, MN – The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have placed right-handed pitcher Joe Smith on the 15-day Injured List (retroactive to June 24) with upper trap tightness.
Smith has appeared in 28 games for the Twins this season, going 1-1 with a 2.78 ERA (22.2 IP, 7 ER), eight walks and 13 strikeouts. He entered today second among American League relievers with 14 holds.
To replace Smith on the 26-man roster, the Twins have recalled left-handed pitcher Jovani Moran from Triple-A St. Paul. Moran, who will be making his third stint with the Twins this season (May 2-6, May 28-June 15), has appeared in eight games for Minnesota in 2022, posting a 1.74 ERA (10.1 IP, 2 ER) with seven walks, 15 strikeouts and a .167 opponent batting average. The lefty has appeared in 13 games for the Saints this season, allowing nine runs in 15.0 innings pitched, with 12 walks and 23 strikeouts.
