Twins select contract of Edwar Colina

Homer Bailey Designated for Release or Assignment

Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN – The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have selected the contract of right-handed pitcher Edwar Colina.

Colina, 23, spent the season at the alternate training site in St. Paul. He pitched at three levels of the Twins minor league system in 2019, combining to go 8-2 with a 2.96 ERA (97.1 IP, 32 ER), 32 walks, 102 strikeouts and a 1.17 WHIP in 19 games (14 starts) for Triple-A Rochester, Double-A Pensacola and Single-A Ft. Myers. The Caracas, Venezuela native was signed by the Twins in September of 2015 and has spent four seasons in the Twins organization, going 19-15 with a 2.80 ERA (324.2 IP, 101 ER), 140 walks, 316 strikeouts and a .216 opponent batting average in 66 games (58 starts).

To make room on the 40-man roster, the Twins have designated right-handed pitcher Homer Bailey for release or assignment. Bailey, who made the start Tuesday night against Detroit, started two games for the Twins this season, going 1-0 with a 3.38 ERA (8.0 IP, 3 ER), three walks and seven strikeouts.
