September 14th, 2019

Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN – The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have selected the contract of right-handed pitcher Jorge Alcala. Alcala will join the team today in Cleveland and wear uniform number 66.

Alcala, 24, combined to go 6-7 with a 5.47 ERA (110.1 IP, 67 ER) with 39 walks, 116 strikeouts in 31 games (16 starts) between Triple-A Rochester and Double-A Pensacola this season. Since his promotion to Rochester on August 19, Alcala tossed 7.2 scoreless innings over five relief outings with 11 strikeouts and two walks. The Dominican Republic native was acquired by the Twins from the Houston Astros (with Gilberto Celestino) in exchange for Ryan Pressly on July 27, 2018.

To make room on the 40-man roster, the Twins have designated right-handed pitcher Marcos Diplan for release or assignment. Diplan, who was acquired by the Twins on July 31 from the Brewers, finished the year making eight appearances for Double-A Pensacola.
