Umpires for League Championship Series announced

October 18th, 2022

Major League Baseball today announced the Major League Umpires who have been assigned to the 2022 American League and National League Championship Series presented by loanDepot.  The San Diego Padres and the Philadelphia Phillies will meet in the NLCS, starting today in San Diego, while the Houston Astros will face either the Cleveland Guardians or the New York Yankees in the ALCS, beginning Wednesday in Houston.

The two LCS crew chiefs are Ted Barrett and Alfonso Márquez, both of whom served in the same capacity during the Wild Card Series.  Barrett will lead the crew on the NLCS, while Márquez’s group will call the ALCS.  Barrett worked the AL Division Series between the Cleveland Guardians and the Tampa Bay Rays.  Márquez oversaw the NL Division Series between the San Diego Padres and the New York Mets.

Barrett’s crew will include Lance Barrett (no relation), Doug Eddings, Adam Hamari, Brian Knight, Todd Tichenor and Quinn Wolcott.  Márquez’s crew will be made up by Vic Carapazza, Chris Conroy, Chris Guccione, Adrian Johnson, Mike Muchlinski and D.J. Reyburn.

Each of the seven umpires assigned to the LCS crews could receive one plate assignment during the series.  Each umpire will be in reserve during the game prior to their scheduled plate duties.  As examples, Lance Barrett will not be on the field in Game One of the NLCS, and Reyburn will not be on the field in Game One of the ALCS; both will then have the plate in Game Two of their respective series.  When Ted Barrett and Márquez are off the field in the Game Two of each series, Todd Tichenor (NLCS) and Chris Conroy (ALCS) will serve as crew chiefs.  Major League Umpires Andy Fletcher, Larry Vanover and Chad Whitson will serve as the LCS Replay Officials.  A complete listing of the rotations through the League Championship Series accompanies this press release.
