May 25th, 2021

The Washington Nationals recalled infielder Luis García from Triple-A on Tuesday. Washington placed outfielder Victor Robles on the 10-day Injured List (retroactive to May 20) with a right ankle sprain on Sunday. Nationals President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Mike Rizzo made the announcement.

García, 21, went 16-for-68 (.235) with one double, four homers, seven RBI, six walks, one stolen base and seven runs scored in 17 games for Triple-A Rochester. He clubbed a two-run walk-off home run on May 20 at Scranton-Wilkes/Barre (NYY) and has hit two lead-off home runs already this season. In five games prior to his promotion, García went 7-for-24 (.292) with a home run, two RBI, three walks, one stolen base and two runs scored.

This marks García’s second Major League stint with the Nationals this season. He made Washington’s Opening Day roster, going 1-for-7 (.143) with a walk and a run scored in six games before being optioned to Triple-A Rochester.

Robles, 24, hit .246 with seven doubles, one triple, five RBI, four stolen bases, 13 walks and 11 runs scored in 39 games for the Nationals prior to being placed on the Injured List.
