White Sox agree to terms with infielder Leury García

CHICAGO – The Chicago White Sox have agreed to terms on a three-year, $16.5-million contract with infielder/outfielder Leury García. Under terms of the agreement, García will receive $5.5 million each season from 2022-24.

García, 30, batted .267/.335/.376 (111-415) with 22 doubles, four triples, five home runs, 54 RBI and 60 runs scored over 126 games in 2021, his ninth season with the White Sox. He made 33 starts at second base, 28 in right field, 22 in center field, 18 at shortstop, eight in left field and eight at third base.

García is a career .259/.302/.364 (497-1,917) hitter with 77 doubles, 31 homers, 181 RBI, 252 runs scored and 62 stolen bases in 606 games over nine seasons in the major leagues with Texas (2013) and the White Sox (2013-21).

He has started 187 games in center field, 75 in right, 72 at second base, 69 in left, 55 at shortstop and 23 at third. García also has started six of the White Sox seven postseason games over the last two seasons.

García was acquired from Texas on August 11, 2013 as the player to be named later in a trade that sent outfielder Alex Ríos to the Rangers. He is the longest tenured member of the White Sox.
