GLENDALE, Ariz. – The Chicago White Sox have agreed to terms on a one-year, $7.45-million contract with right-handed pitcher Lucas Giolito for the 2022 season, avoiding arbitration.

Giolito, 26, went 11-9 with a 3.53 ERA (70 ER/178.2 IP), 1.10 WHIP, .219 (145-662) opponents average and 201 strikeouts in 31 starts last season, his fifth with Chicago. He ranked fourth in the majors with 483 swing and misses in 2021.

The 2019 All-Star became the sixth pitcher in White Sox history to record multiple seasons of 200-plus strikeouts, and his 10.13 strikeouts per 9.0 IP in 2021 marked the sixth-highest total in franchise history. Giolito has received American League Cy Young votes in each of the last three seasons, including top seven finishes in 2019 and 2020­.

Following the signing, all players on the White Sox 40-man roster have agreed to terms for the 2022 season.
