White Sox announce details for Harold Baines Day on August 11
Harold Baines Day Honors Hall of Famer with Pregame Ceremony, Appearances by Special Guests and Commemorative Replica Hall-of-Fame Plaque Giveaway
CHICAGO – The Chicago White Sox will celebrate White Sox legend Harold Baines and his induction into the National Baseball Hall of Fame on Harold Baines Day at Guaranteed Rate Field Sunday, August 11, as the team faces the Oakland Athletics at 1:10 p.m.
Baines, 60, joined Roy Halladay, Edgar Martínez, Mike Mussina, Mariano Rivera and Lee Smith in the Class of 2019, as the 80th induction ceremonies were held on July 21, 2019 in Cooperstown, New York.Baines became the 41st former member of the White Sox organization elected to the Hall of Fame. Along with Smith, Baines was elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame by his peers on the Veterans Committee via the Today’s Game Era ballot.
The six-time All-Star (1985-87, ’89, ’91, and ‘99) will be honored during a special pregame ceremony. Special guests scheduled to appear include former teammates Ron Kittle and Ozzie Guillén, former White Sox third base coach and former Detroit manager Jim Leyland, White Sox broadcast legend Ken “Hawk” Harrelson, as well as fellow Hall of Famers Jim Thome, Carlton Fisk, Tim Raines and Tony La Russa. Fans are encouraged to be in their seats by 12:15 p.m. for the pregame ceremony.
The first 20,000 fans who enter the ballpark will take home a Harold Baines Replica Hall of Fame Plaque, presented by Xfinity. The original Harold Baines Hall-of-Fame plaque from Cooperstown will be on display near Section 157. Fans who check in through the MLB Ballpark app on that day will receive a commemorative Hall of Fame Harold Baines pin at the Revolution Brewing #SoxSocial Tap Room.
Fans have the opportunity to purchase a limited-edition Harold Baines talking bobblehead for $35 at whitesox.com/haroldbobble and at Guaranteed Rate Field in the Charities Corner. All proceeds benefit Chicago White Sox Charities and the YMCA of the Chesapeake in Baines’ hometown of St. Michael’s, Maryland.
