White Sox announce roster moves

CHICAGO – The Chicago White Sox have announced the following roster moves:

  • Acquired INF/OF Jonah McReynolds from the Texas Rangers in exchange for C Welington Castillo and an international signing bonus pool slot;
  • Reinstated RHPs Ryan Burr and Michael Kopech, LHP Carlos Rodón and OF Jon Jay from the 60-day injured list;
  • INF José Abreu, LHP Ross Detwiler, OF Jon Jay, RHP Iván Nova and LHP Héctor Santiago declared free agency;
  • LHP Josh Osich has been claimed off waivers by Boston after being outrighted to Class AAA Charlotte earlier today.

McReynolds, 23, hit .239 (47-197) with 10 doubles, six home runs, 32 RBI and 27 runs scored over 56 games with Advanced Rookie Spokane last season. He appeared at every position except pitcher and catcher with Spokane in 2018.

McReynolds, 5-foot-11 and 165 pounds, was selected by the Rangers in the 13th round of the 2016 First-Year Player Draft.

Castillo, 32, batted .209 (48-230) with 12 doubles, 12 home runs and 41 RBI over 72 games last season, his second with the White Sox.

Following the moves, the White Sox 40-man roster decreases to 32.
