April 5th, 2024

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Prior to tonight’s game at Kansas City, the Chicago White Sox announced the following three roster moves:

  • Placed on the 10-day injured list (1): OF Eloy Jiménez with a left adductor strain (retroactive to April 2);
  • Selected contract from Class AAA Charlotte (1): OF Robbie Grossman;
  • Designated for assignment (1): RHP Alex Speas.

Grossman, 34, is 4-10 (.400) with two home runs and five RBI in three games with Charlotte after signing with Chicago as a minor-league free agent on March 22. He spent the entire 2023 season with the World Series winning Texas Rangers and hit .238 (84-353) with 23 doubles, 10 homers, 49 RBI and 56 runs scored over 115 games. The switch-hitting Grossman appeared in seven of the Rangers’ postseason games.

The 6-foot-1, 215-pound Grossman established career highs with Detroit in 2021 in games (156), home runs (23), RBI (67), runs scored (88), walks (66) and stolen bases. He is a career .244/.346/.379 (899-3,683) hitter with 196 doubles, 90 home runs, 415 RBI and 503 runs scored in 1,126 games over 11 major-league seasons with Houston (2013-15), Minnesota ('16-18), Oakland ('19-20), Detroit ('21-22), Atlanta ('22) and the Rangers ('23).

Grossman has appeared in the postseason five times (2017, '19-20, '22-23) over the last season seasons. Grossman, who originally was selected by Pittsburgh in the sixth round of the 2008 First-Year Player Draft, will wear uniform No. 30.

Jiménez, 27, has missed the last three games after leaving Sunday’s contest vs. Detroit following a sixth-inning at-bat. He is 2-11 (.182) over three games this season.

Speas, 26, has worked 2.1 scoreless IP with two strikeouts over two relief appearances with Charlotte this season. He was claimed by the White Sox off waivers from Texas on October 3, 2023.

Following the moves, Chicago’s 40-man roster remains at 40.
