White Sox announce two roster moves
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Prior to tonight’s series opener at Tampa Bay, the Chicago White Sox announced the following two roster moves:
- Recalled from Class AAA Charlotte (1): RHP Mike Clevinger;
- Placed on 15-day injured list (1): RHP Dominic Leone with lower back tightness (retroactive to May 5).
Clevinger, 33, will start tonight’s game at Tropicana Field vs. the Rays. Clevinger, who agreed to terms on a one-year, $3-million contract on April 4, has allowed three runs on 10 hits with seven strikeouts in 7.1 IP over two starts with Charlotte this season.
Clevinger spent the 2023 season with Chicago and went 9-9 with a 3.77 ERA (55 ER/131.1 IP), 110 strikeouts and two complete games over 24 starts. He led White Sox starters in wins and ERA, and the 24 starts marked his most since 2018 (32).
Clevinger’s 3.27 road ERA (26 ER/71.2 IP) in 2023 would have tied for the fifth-lowest in the American League with the required IP. His 3.32 ERA (31 ER/84.0 IP) from June 1 through the end of the season was the ninth-lowest mark in the AL (minimum 80.0 IP).
Leone, 32, is 0-1 with a 6.75 ERA (11 ER/14.2 IP), three holds and 14 strikeouts in 17 relief appearances with the White Sox this season.
