CHICAGO – Chicago White Sox Charities (CWSC) is honoring Hall of Fame legend Minnie Miñoso by offering fans a limited-edition bobblehead. The exclusive collectible item benefits CWSC and is available for purchase now at whitesox.com/minniebobble (while supplies last).
The bobblehead features the Hall of Famer and seven-time Major League Baseball and two-time Negro Leagues All-Star smiling with his hands raised outside the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum in Cooperstown, New York. Paying homage to his nickname, Miñoso is depicted watching the ascent of “The Cuban Comet” to its place among the stars.
The popular bobblehead collectibles are available for $40 each with all net proceeds benefitting CWSC. Each purchase also includes a limited-edition certificate noting the number associated with the item.
This is the eighth year that CWSC has held a bobblehead fundraising campaign. Previous campaigns have commemorated former team captain Paul Konerko in 2014, José Abreu in 2015, legendary two-sport icon Bo Jackson in 2016, Hall of Famer Tim “Rock” Raines in 2017, World Series Champion A.J. Pierzynski in 2018, Hall of Famer Harold Baines in 2019 and Ford C. Frick award winner Ken “Hawk” Harrelson in 2021 – raising in excess of half a million dollars for CWSC.
“Minnie’s Hall-of-Fame accolades extend far beyond his career with the White Sox, and his impact growing the game and breaking barriers touches the lives of all those who love baseball,” explains Christine O’Reilly, Chicago White Sox Charities Executive Director. “Minnie greeted everyone with open arms and a smile, and we’re pleased that by commemorating his warm embrace and illustrious career, we can provide fans another opportunity to support CWSC in giving back to the community.”
Miñoso, who broke the White Sox color barrier as the first Black Hispanic player in 1951, joined fellow Era Committee inductees Bud Fowler, Gil Hodges, Jim Kaat, Tony Oliva and Buck O’Neil in the Hall of Fame Class of 2022. The _Induction Ceremony_ was held this past Sunday, July 24 in Cooperstown, New York.
