CHICAGO – The Chicago White Sox today announced cumulative charitable donations of more than $1.8 million over the past year. Donations include $637,000 in grants to 30 Chicagoland non-profit organizations through the White Sox Community Fund, a McCormick Foundation (MF) Fund, as well as $137,500 through Chicago White Sox Charities (CWSC) to eight agencies providing services throughout the community.

CWSC also made donations totaling more than $1 million to support White Sox youth baseball initiatives – including the organization’s Amateur City Elite (ACE) and Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities (RBI) programs – and to fund non-profit organizations, such as the Prostate Cancer Foundation, the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum and the University of Chicago Crime Lab. This year’s grant donations, complemented by charitable contributions since the inception of CWSC in 1990, move the team’s total giving to nearly $38 million.

Through the highs and lows of this unprecedented year, the White Sox have remained committed to serving the community and supporting the lives and well-being of all Chicagoans,” explains Christine O’Reilly, CWSC executive director. “Today is a celebration of our fans’ and partners’ unwavering support of this vision, as well as a thank you to the organizations that share our passion for giving back and making Chicago a better place to live, work and play.”

“The McCormick Foundation is incredibly proud of our partnership with the Chicago White Sox. With the generous support of fans, donors and matching funds provided by the McCormick Foundation, grants are made to qualified nonprofit organizations with programs that concentrate on child and youth education, and health and wellness, said MF President and Chief Executive Officer Timothy P. Knight. “Since inception, more than $7.8 million in grants has been distributed through the Chicago White Sox Community Fund, a McCormick Foundation Fund, improving the lives of those in need and transforming the community.”

The White Sox will hold a special pregame ceremony, presented by Peoples Gas, in Guaranteed Rate Field’s Xfinity Kids Zone to recognize the non-profit organizations prior to the game against Oakland on Thursday, August 19 at 1:10 p.m. In addition to meeting executives from CWSC, MF and Peoples Gas, representatives receiving grants on behalf of their organization will be greeted by former White Sox great and 1983 American League Rookie of the Year Ron Kittle.

Each year, grants are made possible by generous contributions from White Sox corporate partners, fans and matching funds from the Robert R. McCormick Foundation. Fans can show their support throughout the 2021 season through an array of CWSC fundraising efforts, including Sox Split 50/50, presented by Wintrust, the first-ever Queen of Hearts raffle, online and in-park auctions, among other programming.
