Arlington, Texas — The Texas Rangers announced the following transactions prior to tonight’s series opener against the New York Mets at Globe Life Field:
- DH / first baseman Joc Pederson placed on 10-day Injured List (left wrist fracture), retroactive to September 19
- Infielder / outfielder Michael Helman activated from 60-day Injured List
- Right-handed pitcher Peyton Gray activated from 15-day Injured List
- Left-handed pitcher Adam Macko optioned to Rookie-level ACL Rangers
- Right-handed pitcher Cal Quantrill transferred to 60-day Injured List
Pederson, 34, was struck by a pitch on the left wrist on September 12 at Arizona and has missed the Rangers’ last 7 contests. He is not eligible to return for Texas in the regular season. In 136 games for the Rangers this year, the left-handed hitter slashed .235/.329/.487/.816 (88-374) with 26 home runs, 2 triples, 12 doubles, and 53 RBI. His 26 longballs this season rank 2nd on the club to Jake Burger (27) and T12th in the A.L. Since June 23, Pederson produced an .885 OPS with 17 home runs in 172 at-bats, good for a 10.12 at-bat per home run ratio that paced the A.L. during that span (minimum 150 plate appearances).
Helman, 30, last appeared for the Rangers on June 13, as he has spent the last four months on the club’s Injured List with a right finger fracture. The right-handed-hitting utilityman was sent on an injury rehab assignment to Triple-A Round Rock beginning on September 15, going 5-for-19 (.263) with one home run, one double, and 2 RBI in 5 games for the Express last week while making starts at centerfield (2 games), third base (1 game), leftfield (1 game), and second base (1 games). In his lone stint with Texas in 2026 from May 18-June 13, Helman hit .167 (5-30) with one home run and 2 RBI.
Gray, 31, missed the Rangers’ last 20 games with right elbow inflammation after he was placed on the 15-day Injured List on August 31 (retroactive to August 30). He did not make any minor league rehab appearances. In 48 relief outings for Texas this year, Gray is 6-0 with a 3.93 ERA (24 ER/55.0 IP) and 58 strikeouts against 16 walks. The rookie right-hander’s 48 appearances from April 23-August 29 ranked 2nd on the Rangers staff during that span to only Tyler Alexander (49 games). He is the only pitcher in MLB this season with 6-or-more victories and no losses, seeking to become the third Texas pitcher to turn the trick over a full campaign, joining Robbie Ross in 2012 (6-0) and Matt Festa in 2024 (6-0).
Macko, 25, appeared once for Texas since he was recalled from Triple-A Round Rock on Saturday, pitching 2.1 shutout innings while allowing one inherited runner to score on Sunday vs. Toronto, his former club. Over 2 stints with the Rangers this year (August 28-September 11, September 19-21), the southpaw posted no record and a 6.00 ERA (6 ER/9.0 IP) in 8 relief appearances. In 30 MLB games (one start) for Texas and Toronto during his 2026 rookie season, Macko is 2-0 with a 5.23 ERA.
Quantrill, 31, was placed on the 15-day Injured List on Sunday with a right lat strain. The right-hander went 9-5 with a 2.86 ERA (35 ER/110.0 IP) in 32 games/15 starts for the Rangers this year.
With today’s transactions, the Rangers remain at the 40-man limit on the club’s Major League roster, along with six players on the 60-day Injured List (RHP’s Carter Baumler, Jose Corniell, Jack Leiter, Cal Quantrill, and Cole Winn, and LHP Jalen Beeks).
