The Texas Rangers today announced that the club has activated first baseman Ronald Guzmán from the seven-day MLB concussion list and optioned right-handed pitcher Chris Martin to Triple-A Round Rock.
Guzmán is in the starting lineup as the first baseman for tonight's series opener against the Houston Astros. He will be seeking his first action since leaving the game on June 25 versus San Diego in the bottom of the sixth inning after taking a knee to the head while diving back into third base on a pickoff attempt. Guzmán has batted .227 with 7 home runs and 30 RBI over 59 games with the Rangers this season in his first major league season.
Martin has gone 1-1 with a 4.13 ERA (11 ER/24.0 IP) over 27 relief appearances in his first season with the Rangers. He has had a pair of stints on the 10-day disabled list from May 2-19 (right forearm irritation) and June 10-21 (right calf strain).
The Rangers remain at the 40-man limit on the major league roster, along with five players on the 60-day disabled list.
