Rangers place 2B Rougned Odor on 10-day injured list, Select INF/OF Danny Santana from Nashville

Vólquez transferred to 60-day injured list

April 13th, 2019

The Texas Rangers today announced that the club has placed second baseman Rougned Odor on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to April 11, with a right knee sprain. To take his place on the active roster, the team has selected the contract of infielder/outfielder Danny Santana (#38) from Triple-A Nashville.

Additionally, right-handed pitcher Edinson Vólquez has been transferred from the 10-day injured list to the 60-day injured list to accommodate Santana on the club’s major league roster.

Odor has batted .167 with no home runs and 2 RBI in 12 games for the Rangers this season. He started each of the club’s first 11 contests at second base, and appeared in each of the Rangers’ first 12 games before he was scratched from last night’s lineup just prior to first pitch. It is just Odor’s second career trip to the injured list, as he was also out from April 10-May 10, 2018 with a left hamstring strain. The first date he would be eligible to return is April 21.

Santana, 28, is in tonight’s starting lineup at second base, batting eighth. He will be making his Texas debut. Santana has started in each of Nashville’s first 9 games, batting .343 (12-35) with 4 doubles, a triple, and 6 RBI. The switch-hitter has reached safely in each of his last 5 games with the Sounds at .316 (6-19) with 2 walks. Santana was signed by the Rangers to a minor league contract on January 9 with an invitation to Major League spring training camp. He tied for the club lead with 11 RBI this spring, batting .280 (14-50) in 22 games with the Rangers.

Santana has appeared at the Major League level in each of the last five seasons (2014-18), hitting .256 (280-1095) with 13 home runs and 100 RBI over 364 games with Minnesota and Atlanta. He was 5-for-28 over 15 games with the Braves last season.

Vólquez was placed on the 10-day injured list on April 5 with a right elbow sprain. He has posted no record and a 7.04 ERA (6 ER/7.2 IP) in 2 games/starts for the Rangers this season, including taking no decision in the Rangers’ 11-4 on April 4 against the Angels in Anaheim (3.2 IP, 4 H, 2 R-ER).

Following today’s transactions, the Rangers remain at the 40-man limit on the major league roster, along with four players on the 60-day injured list: RHP Luke Farrell, OF Scott Heineman, LHP Yohander Méndez, and RHP Edinson Vólquez.
