The Texas Rangers today announced that the club has purchased the contract of right-handed pitcher Yovani Gallardo (#49 -- pronounced yoh-VAH-nee guy-YAHR-doh) from Triple-A Round Rock and optioned left-handed pitcher Brandon Mann to Round Rock. The team has also transferred right-handed pitcher Doug Fister from the 10-day to the 60-day disabled list.

Gallardo, 32, is the scheduled starter for Sunday's series finale against the Colorado Rockies. He will be making a return to the Rangers for the first time since his lone season with the club in 2015, when he was a member of the rotation for the American League West division champions. The Fort Worth native signed a minor league contract with the Rangers on April 13 and posted a 2-1 record with a 3.81 ERA (21 ER/49.2 IP) in 10 games/starts for Round Rock this season. He began the year in the Milwaukee organization, but was released at the end of spring training on March 28 and signed with Cincinnati on March 31. Gallardo allowed 8 runs in 2.1 innings spanning 3 relief appearances with the Reds before he was designated for assignment on April 10.

Mann was recalled from Round Rock on Friday. He has no record and a 1.50 ERA (1 ER/6.0 IP) over 4 relief appearances spanning two stints with Texas this season (May 13-23, June 13-14) in his first career major league action.

Fister was placed on the 10-day disabled list on June 10, retroactive to June 9, with a right knee strain. He has a 1-7 record with a 4.50 ERA (33 ER/66.0 IP) over 12 games/starts with Texas this season. The first date he would be eligible to return is August 8.

After today's transactions, the Rangers remain at the 40-man limit on the major league roster, along with 6 players on the 60-day disabled list.
