Rays Spotlight Technology Advancements on Rays.TV

April 13th, 2026

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla.—The Tampa Bay Rays announced Union Home Mortgage as the presenting partner of Rays.TV across all linear and streaming platforms for the 2026 season. This partnership marks the beginning of a new era in Rays broadcasts and helped make possible a more immersive viewing experience for fans.

Union Home Mortgage is a privately held, full-service mortgage banking company operating across 48 states that prides itself on a culture of integrity, world-class customer service, and industry-leading satisfaction. With 13 branches across the state of Florida and several within the Tampa Bay region, Union Home Mortgage will continue to invest in this community through local partnership and charitable contributions.

"At Union Home Mortgage, we believe everyone deserves a seat at the game,” said Union Home Mortgage CEO and Co-Chair of the Tampa Bay Rays Bill Cosgrove. “That's why we're proud to serve as the presenting partner of Rays.TV— because just as we work every day to open the doors of homeownership for families across the country, we're committed to making sure fans everywhere can be part of the moments that bring us all together."

With updated technology, game coverage features, and enhanced storytelling, Rays.TV viewers will be closer to the action and will capture the emotion on the field throughout the season. Fans will notice a refreshed look and feel, while still enjoying the same familiar broadcast team. Upgraded graphics—including an improved score bug—keeps viewers more informed. Automated Ball-Strike (ABS) system challenges are now shown live as they happen inside Tropicana Field.

Drone

During the team’s home opener on April 6, Rays.TV flew a drone inside Tropicana Field. This was the first time a drone was flown inside a dome on a local club broadcast. Operating within strict MLB and FAA guidelines, the drone captured scale and spectacle, providing a cinematic perspective of the ballpark and fan environment, reinforcing baseball as both a game and an experience.

Wire Cam

The wire cam enhances live baseball coverage with sweeping aerial movement that delivers a dynamic viewing experience and transforms the broadcast by showcasing the ballpark’s scale and atmosphere. Baseball is one of the most challenging sports to cover live, with multiple points of action unfolding simultaneously. The wire cam helps capture both the ball and baserunners in a single shot, reducing the need for rapid cuts between cameras and replays and allowing game directors and producers to present each play more efficiently.

By bringing viewers closer to the action, the wire cam helps fans at home feel as though they are inside Tropicana Field. The wire cam becomes part of the experience with fans reacting as it moves overhead. The result is a more engaging broadcast that highlights crowd energy and reinforces the ballpark as a destination.

Dirt Cam

Rays.TV will debut the dirt cam during the homestand beginning May 1, and will use it during select series for the rest of the season, introducing a new way to capture the game with great detail.

The system features tiny cameras embedded approximately four inches into the dirt, delivering dramatic close-up shots through an incredible wide-angle perspective. One camera will be positioned in front of home plate, while another will be installed at second base to provide unique infield views. Once in place, the system will remain virtually invisible, with only the top visible at about a quarter-inch above the playing surface.
