Red Sox activate shortstop Xander Bogaerts from 10-day DL

Prior to tonight's home game against the Tampa Bay Rays, the Boston Red Sox activated shortstop Xander Bogaerts from the 10-day disabled list and placed outfielder/infielder Brock Holt on the DL with a left hamstring strain.

BOSTON -- Prior to tonight's home game against the Tampa Bay Rays, the Boston Red Sox activated shortstop Xander Bogaerts from the 10-day disabled list and placed outfielder/infielder Brock Holt on the 10-day disabled list with a left hamstring strain.

Bogaerts, 25, played each of the Red Sox' first 9 games of the season before being placed on the disabled list with a left ankle injury on April 9. At the time of his injury, the shortstop led the majors outright with seven doubles and was batting .368 (14-for-38) with a .711 slugging percentage, 1.111 OPS, nine extra-base hits, and nine RBI. On April 7 against the Rays at Fenway Park, he drove in a career-high six runs, including four on his second career grand slam. In 632 career games since debuting with the 2013 World Series Champion Red Sox, the Aruban native has hit .284 (698-for-2,456) with 367 runs scored, 138 doubles, 11 triples, 53 home runs, 292 RBI, and a .978 fielding percentage. Bogaerts played six innings at shortstop in a rehabilitation game with Triple-A Pawtucket on Tuesday, going 2-for-3 with a double and a solo home run.
Holt, 29, has hit .340 (17-for-50) with a .400 on-base percentage, six doubles, one home run, and seven RBI over 16 games with the Red Sox this season, reaching base in each of his 14 starts. The left-handed hitter has hit safely in each of his last nine games, batting .471 (16-for-34), and has recorded a double in a career-high-tying four straight games. A seven-year major league veteran, the 2015 All-Star has played 459 career games with the Pirates (2012) and Red Sox (2013-18), batting .267 (403-for-1,507) with 212 runs scored, 82 doubles, 12 triples, 14 home runs, and 136 RBI.
