Prior to tonight's game against the Seattle Mariners, the Boston Red Sox made the following roster moves:
President of Baseball Operations Dave Dombrowski made the announcement.
Devers, 20, has batted .311 (100-for-322) with a .955 OPS in 86 games between Double-A Portland and Pawtucket this season, hitting 20 doubles and 20 home runs with 60 RBI. After being promoted to Triple-A on July 14, the left-handed batter appeared in nine games for the PawSox and went 14-for-35 (.400) with two home runs and a double. Ranked No. 6 on Baseball America's 2017 Midseason Top 100 Prospects list, Devers has played no defensive position other than third base in his professional career, and in 2016 he was named the Red Sox' Minor League Defensive Player of the Year. Signed by Boston as an international free agent in 2013, the Dominican native has hit .296 (461-for-1,555) with 49 home runs and an .836 OPS in 399 career minor league games.
Ross, 28, was placed on the 10-day disabled list on June 1 (retroactive to May 19) with left elbow inflammation. The left-hander, who also missed the Red Sox' first eight games of the season while on the disabled list with influenza, has posted a 7.00 ERA in eight games with Boston this season, allowing seven runs on 12 hits with five walks and nine strikeouts in 9.0 innings. For his major league career, Ross has gone 16-12 with six saves, a 3.92 ERA (144 ER/330.2 IP), and 274 strikeouts in 266 games (12 starts) between the Texas Rangers (2012-14) and Red Sox (2015-17).
Martin, 26, was recalled by Boston on July 19 for his first career major league stint. He appeared in two games with the big league club, allowing one run on two hits with two walks and a strikeout in 2.1 innings. In 23 appearances with the PawSox this season, all in relief, the right-hander has posted a 3.79 ERA (16 ER/38.0 IP), including a 2.43 mark (9 ER/33.1 IP) in his last 19 outings. He has thrown more than one inning in 12 of his 23 games, recording a 1.86 ERA (6 ER/29.0 IP) in those efforts. In five minor league seasons since being selected by Boston in the ninth round of the 2013 June Draft, Martin has compiled a 15-16 record with 25 saves, a 3.47 ERA (103 ER/267.1 IP), and 277 strikeouts against 80 walks.
