Red Sox Announce Roster Moves

BOSTON, MA—The Boston Red Sox today announced the following roster moves:

  • Reinstated left-handed pitcher Patrick Sandoval from the 60-Day Injured List.
  • Optioned left-handed pitcher Alec Gamboa to Triple-A Worcester.
  • Designated right-handed pitcher Jack Anderson for assignment.

Sandoval, 29, was placed on the Injured List on March 25 (retroactive to March 22), recovering from left ulnar collateral ligament surgery. He has made eight rehab starts for Triple-A Worcester (6) and Double-A Portland (2), posting a 3.42 ERA (9 ER/23.2 IP) with 13 walks, 22 strikeouts and a .190 opponent batting average (16-for-84). Selected by the Houston Astros in the 11th round of the 2015 First-Year Player Draft, the California native owns a 4.01 ERA (239 ER/536.0 IP) with 529 strikeouts in 107 career Major League games (100 starts), all with the Los Angeles Angels (2019-24).

Gamboa, 29, has made four appearances for Boston this season, his Major League debut, tossing 5.0 innings. The left-hander has also pitched in 13 games (six starts) for Worcester this year, recording a 3.21 ERA (15 ER/42.0 IP) with 40 strikeouts. Originally selected by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the ninth round of the 2019 First-Year Player Draft, the California native owns a 4.12 ERA (184 ER/401.2 IP) in 144 career minor league games (47 starts).

Anderson, 26, has pitched in three games for Boston this year, his Major League debut, allowing three runs over 8.0 innings with two walks and six strikeouts. The right-hander has also pitched in 16 games (11 starts) for Worcester, posting a 4.81 ERA (31 ER/58.0 IP) with 21 walks and 51 strikeouts. Originally selected by the Detroit Tigers in the 16th round of the 2021 First-Year Player Draft, the Florida native was selected by the Red Sox in the Triple-A Phase of the 2024 Rule 5 Draft and owns a 4.32 ERA (159 ER/331.0 IP) with 330 strikeouts in 160 career minor league games (19 starts).
