BOSTON, MA—The Boston Red Sox today reinstated first baseman Willson Contreras from the 10-Day Injured List. To make room, Boston placed Anthony Seigler on the 10-Day Injured List with right wrist inflammation.
Contreras, 34, was placed on the Injured List on August 31 with a left hamstring strain. The right-handed batter played in two rehab games with Double-A Portland, going 2-for-7 with a run scored and two RBI, while making one start as the designated hitter and one at first base. He has batted .274 (119-for-434) with 21 doubles, three triples, 26 home runs, 79 RBI, 66 runs scored, 57 walks, and a .900 OPS in 125 games this year for Boston, making 123 starts at first base and one as the designated hitter. Originally signed as an international free agent by the Chicago Cubs in July 2009, the Venezuela native has hit .260 (1,073-for-4,134) with 229 doubles, 14 triples, 198 home runs, 627 RBI, and an .820 OPS in 1,203 career Major League games for the Cubs (2016-22), St. Louis Cardinals (2023-25), and Red Sox (2026).
Seigler, 27, left yesterday’s game against the Kansas City Royals in the 7th inning with right wrist soreness. The switch-hitter has played in 49 games for Boston this season, batting .247 (37-for-150) with 12 doubles, one triple, three home runs, 13 RBI, and a .727 OPS, while making 40 starts at second base. He has also played in 44 games this year for Worcester, hitting .267 (43-for-161) with 21 runs scored, 10 doubles, two triples, three home runs, 27 RBI, and a .791 OPS. Originally selected by the New York Yankees in the first round (No. 23 overall) of the 2018 First-Year Player Draft, the Arizona native has hit .231 (49-for-212) in 83 career Major League games with the Milwaukee Brewers (2025) and Red Sox (2026).
