BOSTON, MA—The Boston Red Sox today reinstated right-handed pitcher Garrett Whitlock from the Paternity Leave List. To make room, Boston optioned right-handed pitcher Tyler Uberstine to Triple-A Worcester.
Whitlock, 29, has made three scoreless appearances this season, totaling 3.0 innings pitched. The right-hander has held opponents to a .182 batting average (2-for-11) with two walks and four strikeouts. Originally selected by the New York Yankees in the 18th round of the 2017 First-Year Player Draft, the Georgia native owns a 3.10 ERA (109 ER/316.2 IP) with 347 strikeouts in 168 career Major League games (23 starts), all with the Red Sox (2021-26).
Uberstine, 26, made his Major League debut yesterday against the San Diego Padres, pitching 2.2 innings and allowing one run on three hits and one walk with two strikeouts. The right-hander also made one start for Triple-A Worcester on March 28 against Syracuse. Selected by the Red Sox in the 19th round of the 2021 First-Year Player Draft, the California native owns a 3.54 ERA (90 ER/228.2 IP) in 55 career minor league games (41 starts).
