The Boston Red Sox today set their 2018 Opening Day 25-man roster by making the following moves.

· Left-handed pitcher Bobby Poyner was selected to the active major league roster. He will wear number 66.
· Right-handed pitcher Marcus Walden was selected to the active major league roster. He will wear number 64.
· Infielder Marco Hernandez, who is recovering from left shoulder surgery, was placed on the 60-day disabled list.
· Right-handed pitcher Austin Maddox was placed on the 10-day disabled list with a right shoulder strain.
· Second baseman Dustin Pedroia, who is recovering from left knee cartilage restoration surgery, was placed on the 10-day disabled list.
· Right-handed pitcher Tyler Thornburg, who is recovering from right shoulder thoracic outlet surgery, was placed on the 10-day disabled list.
President of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski made the announcement.
The 2018 Opening Day roster includes 12 pitchers, three catchers, six infielders, and four outfielders.
The Red Sox open their 118th season today, March 29, against the Tampa Bay Rays at Tropicana Field. Left-handed pitcher Chris Sale will make his fourth career Opening Day start, his first as a member of the Red Sox. He will be opposed by Rays right-hander Chris Archer, with first pitch set for 4 p.m. ET.

PITCHERS (12): Matt Barnes, Heath Hembree, Brian Johnson, Joe Kelly, Craig Kimbrel, Rick Porcello, Bobby Poyner, David Price, Chris Sale, Carson Smith, Hector Velázquez and Marcus Walden.
CATCHERS (3): Sandy Leon, Blake Swihart and Christian Vázquez.
INFIELDERS (6): Xander Bogaerts, Rafael Devers, Brock Holt, Mitch Moreland, Eduardo Núñez and Hanley Ramirez.
OUTFIELDERS (4): Andrew Benintendi, Mookie Betts, Jackie Bradley Jr. and J.D. Martinez.
