CINCINNATI - Cincinnati Reds Vice President, General Manager Nick Krall today announced the signing of Covington Catholic High School graduate C Luke Maile (MAY-lee) to a 1-year contract through the 2023 season.

Maile, 31, originally was signed out of the University of Kentucky by the Tampa Bay Rays after he was selected in the eighth round of the June 2012 first-year player draft.

           He made his Major League debut in 2015 and has made 307 career appearances for the Rays, Blue Jays, Brewers and Guardians. He made all 240 of his starts at catcher.

Maile played baseball, basketball and golf at Covington Catholic, where after his senior baseball season he was named Kentucky's Gatorade Player of the Year. He attended the University of Kentucky, where as a junior in 2012 he was All-SEC second team and a semifinalist for the Dick Howser Trophy and USA Baseball Golden Spikes Award.

His father, Rich, played football at the University of Dayton and the University of Kentucky. His grandfather, Dick, was All-America in basketball at LSU.
