Mariners promote Justin Hollander to executive vice president & general manager of baseball operations

Hollander is 10th general manager in Mariners history

SEATTLE, WA. -- Seattle Mariners President of Baseball Operations Jerry Dipoto announced today that Justin Hollander has been promoted to Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations. Hollander will be responsible for all aspects of the Mariners baseball operation while continuing to report to Dipoto.

“Justin has been an integral part of our Baseball Ops leadership group and a wonderful partner to me throughout our time together,” Dipoto said. “His passion, intelligence, people skills and creativity show up every day. Moving forward, the Mariners are simply a better organization with Justin in this role.”

Hollander is completing his sixth full year with the Mariners in 2022, his third since being promoted to Vice President & Assistant General Manager of Baseball Operations on Jan. 30, 2020.

Justin was already fully involved in all areas of the Mariners Major League operations as well as player procurement, negotiations of Major League contracts and 40-man roster composition. He recently led the negotiations which resulted in Luis Castillo agreeing to a five-year contract extension. Hollander also provides oversight for the Baseball Operations front office and analytics staff and is also the primary liaison to Major League Baseball / Office of the Commissioner.

Hollander was originally hired by the Mariners as the Director of Baseball Operations on Sept. 23, 2016, and promoted to Assistant General Manager on Nov. 1, 2018.

Prior to joining the Mariners, Justin spent the previous nine seasons in the Los Angeles Angels front office, serving several different roles in the Angels baseball operations department.

He began his career with the Angels in January 2008, as a player development & scouting assistant. In that role, he worked closely with department heads in several distinct aspects of baseball operations, including arbitration, research and advance scouting. He was promoted to Director, Baseball Operations in 2012 and served as the Director, Player Personnel in 2016.

A native of Dayton, OH, Hollander is a 2001 graduate of The Ohio State University (B.S., business administration and marketing) and received his law degree from the University of San Diego in 2004.

Justin, and his wife Whitney, reside in Seattle with their son, Elliot and daughter, Lucy.
