SEATTLE, Wash. - Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Jerry Dipoto announced today the following roster move:
Goeddel, 29, was designated for assignment by Seattle on May 16. He appeared in 5 games out of the bullpen with the Mariners, going 2-0 with a 1.23 ERA (1 ER, 7.1 IP) while striking out 9 and walking 5. Prior to being selected by Seattle on May 3, the 6-foot-3, 190-pound right-hander went 1-0 with 4 saves with 10 strikeouts and 4 walks in 9 relief appearances with AAA Tacoma this season. He signed a minor league contract with the Mariners on March 20, 2018. He began the 2018 Cactus League season with Texas after signing with the Rangers as a minor league free agent on Dec. 19, 2017.
Goeddel has appeared in parts of 5 Major League seasons with the New York Mets (2014-17) and Seattle Mariners (2018), posting a record of 5-4 with a 3.78 ERA (47 ER, 112.0 IP) with 118 strikeouts and 43 walks in 115 career relief appearances. The native of San Mateo, CA, was originally selected by the Mets in the 24th round of the 2010 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of UCLA, where he was a part of the 2010 UCLA squad that advanced to the finals of the College World Series. He made his Major League debut with the Mets on Sept. 1, 2014 at Miami.
